It’s the end of the year again! This year seemed so fast to me. Let’s take a look at what we read and what we accomplished in 2024. Grab a drink and a treat and settle in!
Did you set any goals for reading this year? Did you accomplish those goals?
Raspberry
I had a few reading goals for 2024! One was to read 100 books, which I was able to accomplish. Another was to read 2 specific genres per month (ex. Read one true crime book and one book about time travel in June)… but I lost the list I made for that by the summer haha so it didn’t quite work out!

I think my goal was to read a book each month, coming out to 12 books this year. Once I finish the book I’m currently reading, I’ll be at 12. I also wanted to record what I thought of them, and I’ve been keeping track of that in my planner and my book journal. I did accomplish my goals, but I’d really like to do better next time!

I did set goals during the Tea Party from last year: I wanted to read two books on my shelf that I hadn’t gotten to yet. Instead I added even more books to my shelf that I still need to read, but they’re all books I’m excited about, so I’m looking forward to starting them! As long as I don’t get distracted by other books…
Any bookish goals for next year?
Raspberry
I might try doing the genre challenge again if I can me-proof losing the list again. Other than that, I’ve been enjoying reading lately and just want to keep reading great books!

Same as this year, but maybe more. The bare minimum I’d like to read is 12, but more would be great. I think the next thing I’ll read is Macbeth, so that’s my short term goal. Other than that… I was kind of thinking of maybe doing a bingo kind of thing, but I probably have enough books on my shelf without having to go around looking lol.

I want to reorganize my bookshelf. I can be a bit of a maximalist, but the shelves are starting to look more cluttered than cute, so it’s definitely time to move things around. Plus, being more organized means more space, and more space means more books! That’s how that works, right? (I’m kidding. Really!)
Did you find any new favorites while reading this year?
Raspberry
So many!! I found that expanding what I usually read can sometimes be really rewarding. Some books that are outside of my usual collection but that I really enjoyed would probably be I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid, The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley, and Bury My Heart at Chuck E. Cheese’s by Tiffany Midge.

I didn’t realize until I was looking at my list, but I read a surprising amount of Peter S. Beagle this year! He’s been a favorite because I grew up with the animated version of The Last Unicorn. I’m reading his new book, I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons, right now and it’s good. I read The Overneath at the beginning of this year, too.
Like last year, I experimented a lot. I read some business books and some food books and some fashion books. I read some speeches and started reading a poetry collection. I like that I didn’t stick to one thing the whole time.

The library randomly sent me a notification for a book I hadn’t heard of, so I decided to check it out. Turns out it was part of an eleven book series, and I devoured it—along with then other ten. It was so much fun! There’s also a spinoff series with some of the same characters that I’m excited to start next year.
Any other accomplishments or resolutions you want to share?
Raspberry
I survived the year! Haha. I got a job that was better for my mental health, I started prioritizing my mental health, and I was able to keep to my writing goals for JAAM. I’d like to find time in the next year to work on more personal writings without falling behind on life or JAAM, but we’ll see what the new year brings!

I did do some big things that I’ve been wanting to do, so I’m glad I can finally cross them off my list.
One thing I want to do this upcoming year is start studying again… I really want to do maybe at least an hour a week of something, whether it’s language or math. I do need to start practicing math again, so. I’ll do that whether it’s at home or somewhere else, but I’d really like to start going to the library physically again. Other than that… I’d like to keep up with my self care and add exercising to my routine.

This might be a weird accomplishment to feel proud of, but I closed so many browser tabs this year! I think I’ve mentioned during other Tea Parties that I spiral a bit while researching, and all the rabbit holes leave me with quite a few tabs open. I can’t just close them when I still need them, so I’ve gotten better at organizing, saving, and then closing them instead. It’s not a perfect system yet, but nothing gets lost, and it’s so satisfying when I’m able to shut down my laptop at the end of the day. As opposed to leaving the poor thing on eternally.
Thank you for reading! Do you have any new favorites this year? Any resolutions you want to share? Let us know!
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year! Stay safe and see you in the next one!!
